Monday night might not be the perfect date for a wild punkrock show, just because you probably might not want to party too hard with the largest part of the week still ahead of you. But that didn't make the Punkrock Holiday ReLoaded show at Club Vaudeville any less spectacular. Descendents, Good Riddance and Masked Intruder really heated things up and made the concert venue feel like a sauna.
I first saw Masked Intruder in Stuttgart in 2015. The cheerful punkrock combined with the outfits and Officer Bradford was new to me and i just liked how the people were having a good time. It was like that this time again - with new songs like "No Case", a spontaneous dance session with a fan and Officer Bradford wielding a huge donut. Good times!
Good Riddance have just put out their new record "Thoughts And Prayers" and it was met with critical acclaim. In Lindau they did what they are best known for: play melodic and powerful songs and mixing catchy tunes with punkrock and hardcore vibes. Ross Rankin is a very energetic singer and so was the whole performance.
Descendents took the energy to even higher levels. You can really tell that they use caffeine for doping, as Bill Stevenson told me in an interview recently. Milo had what looked like a water bottle for hiking strapped around his chest, but I would not be surprised if it had been full of coffee. Of course "Coffee Mug" had to be on the setlist, and tracks like "Weinerschnitzel" or "I like food" are just so over-the-top fun that you really get why the gray-haired men sing "I Don't Want To Grow Up". And while Karl Alvarez is the laid back bass player, Stephen Egerton makes funny faces and gets crazy with his guitar. Bill Stevenson plays the drums so casually yet so precise and powerful that you really have to admire him - when you see him; I had a hard time getting any shots of him.
So here's hoping that Descendents return to Lindau in the not so far future - when they have their new album out, also in the hopefully not so far future.
