Concert photos: Dan Mangan & Georgia Harmer at the Park Theatre

Dan Mangan at the Park Theatre.
So I have to admit that I hadn't heard a song by Dan Mangan before buying a ticket for the show at the Park Theatre. And even two hours before the concert, I had no idea what he sounds like. I had heard that he is famous for his shows though, and as I'm always keen on broadening my musical horizon, I was excited to go to the show and take photos. What can I say - Mr. Mangan, you have a new fan (who bought two CDs, yes I still do that, and a T-shirt at the merch booth).

The sheer beauty of Dan Mangan's music can be overwhelming. A woman standing next to me began to sob when the show started, and I'm not sure if she ever stopped. It made me pay attention to the lyrics even more. The beautiful thing about Dan Mangan's music is that there is a great deal of melancholy in the songs, but the sadness is not desperation. Underneath the acoustic autumn leaves of his poetry lies a feeling of being in this together, of pulling through and rising from the ashes. And I really had to smile when the chorus of "Robots" made its way into my brain.

And I loved the idea that you can send a text message to Dan Mangan. If you missed out on it: You can text the word "Winnipeg" to the phone number 310-347-4597 and you will get a link to the concert doc "All Together Now". That title seems very fitting, not only because he was joined on stage by the angelic voice Georgia Harmer, who brought her delicate Folk sound to the Park Theatre before Dan Mangan entered the stage.
